Here's a few panels from a strip drawn in the early nineties, around about the same time as the Sonic the Hedgehog strip, below, for the Red Dwarf Smegazine. It features "Ace Rimmer", a rather more heroic version of the shows wimpy Arnold Rimmer. It was great fun to draw!

This is a teaser image for a character I've had floating around in my head for a year or two. I'm attempting to work it up into a usable occasional comic strip. You can keep tabs on my efforts right here!

This is my contribution to this years 2000AD forum advent calendar. Each day, a forum member (or two) take it in turns to post a little something for the rest of the forumites to enjoy, be it a drawing, photo, animation...anything! You can see the thread containing all the lovely stuff at the 2000AD forum, right here!

Below is the rough for this pic. It was pencilled very small, scanned, parts repositioned, enlarged and printed out at the desired size for inking by hand. Then those inks were scanned back in, cleaned up and coloured with Coral Painter. Phew!

Some old colouring work from yeeeeaaaars ago!

I was talking to a friend at work the other day about the new Sonic the Hedgehog game on PS3 that my 4 year old daughter Autumn loves to watch me play (that's my excuse, anyway....) and it reminded me of this old strip I coloured for the Sonic Comic, or rather a Sonic Poster comic back in the early/mid Nineties. I had a scoot around at home, but sadly I can't find my copy. I found it online, though. Next best thing, I suppose. It's strange, seeing this after all these years.... The fantastic art is by Mike Hadley. Great stuff.

He's a great character, but quite hard to draw. There have been some cracking attempts over at the blog, here http://weeklythemedartblog.blogspot.com/ Conor Boyles being my favourite so far. Really interesting take on the grey and red fella. Below is an earlier quicker sketch of Shakara, drawn for Dirk Vandoms Christmas Advent calender story. Great fun. ;-P

Heres my contribution to this weeks subject. I suppose I must have been feeling a little....morbid, this week! It was fun to draw something other than guys with guns / Weird aliens for a change.....now onto this weeks subject : Shakaras world from 2000AD comic. Can't wait to see what everyone comes up with.

It features DR and Quinch, two of my alltime favourite characters from the comic. Just love Alan Davis' work. Gorgeous! :-D

WTF is Dr WTF?!....?

Heres a wee sneek peek of a one pager drawn for upcoming Dr Who fanzine, 'Dr WTF?!'.
The comic is the brain child of editor Owen Watts, who has assembled a veritable flock of writers and artists to submit wild, alternative versions of the good Doctor.
Writer Alan Holloway and myself were teamed up by Owen. It was lots of fun to draw, so cheers to Alan for coming up with an enjoyable little tale. The Facebook page for 'Dr WTF?!', which contains some more preview images and the latest info on the comic can be found here....

The 2000AD messege board 'secret project'

This was the strip that Shaun Avery (writer) and myself contributed to the 2000AD messege boards secret project, as organised by the Legendary Shark. The project was a huge book of fan, and some pro, artwork and goodwill messeges, all collated into a book which was then sent to artist Carlos Ezquerra, who recently had a lung removed due to cancer. Carlos was allways a favourite of mine as a child and still amazes with his artwork to this day. A true hero to me.

The page was drawn at A4 size, coloured traditionally with inks and a brush.

I was having a clearout at home and found some old pics. This one was a 'flyer', that I posted to several comics. Its dated 1995. Old! The idea was that this flyer fitted neatly into a regular envelope, thus bypassing the slush pool and having more chance of getting in front of the editors eyeballs. It did the trick. It pays to be sneeky sometimes, heh. :-P

Heres some bits from my skecthing sesh last night. I'm muddling over some ideas for the main species of this new Omnivistascope strip. They are supposedly a humanoid, neanderthal-esque/ reptilian race! :-D

Recently dug out my old portfolio, which contained lots of stuff I had forgotten about over the years. I'll post some of the more...bizarre stuff later, but here are two pages from a Dredd sample. They are about 10 yeqars old now. The B+W page is first (could'nt work out how to re-arrange this post!).

I recently found a mint copy of the Judge Dredd Mega-special, from 1993. This issue contains my first paid work, a Judge Hershey story called "hov bus blues", written by the fantastic Robbie Morrison, creator of Nikolai Dante. I had a real nightmare drawing this, as the two things I was'nt confident in drawing, women and vehicles were the two main ingredients of the story! I actually drew the whole thing twice, as then editor David Bishop did'nt like the first panel. Or the fact that she had her helmet on during the whole thing!

So, i've been hard at work recently doing this 3 page comic strip for the next issue of acclaimed small-press anthology Omnivistascope (issue No 5, I believe). Its a great little one off story by Paul Von Scott and its been great fun to draw, though finding the time these days to concentrate on artwork is very difficult. I guess thats life though, eh?
